Last season on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, we watched the disintegration of Cynthia Bailey’s marriage to Peter Thomas. For one thing, we saw that infamous video of Peter openly making moves on a woman at the bar. But Cynthia seemed more worried by the optics than the fact that Peter was openly canoodling with someone other than her. By the time the reunion rolled around, they claimed they were fine—just very busy with their separate businesses. In actuality, they were separated period.

In this season’s opener, we’re getting a glimpse at the reality of Cynthia’s marriage. While she’s still living in Atlanta, Peter lives in Charlotte where he can keep an eye on his bars. In her blog, Cynthia tells what finally caused her to make the split a permanent one.

“I ultimately decided that it was time to end my marriage with Peter when I felt like I had reached my own personal breaking point. I believed that I had given as much as I could — spiritually and emotionally I had nothing else to give.”

It was obvious from their conversation that Peter doesn’t want the divorce. Though Cynthia still cares for him, she no longer sees Peter as a husband.

“I realized that going forward I could be a better friend to Peter than a wife.”

Meeting with the attorney was difficult. It forced Cynthia to reexamine her decision to move forward with the divorce.

“On my drive to my lawyer’s office I kept asking myself over and over in my head, “Are you sure this is what you want to do, Cynthia?”

Cynthia stated that despite that damning video, there was no infidelity on either side. On Watch What Happens Live, Kandi Burruss agreed, saying if Peter had been cheating, the woman would have come forward by now.

Ultimately, Cynthia decided to stick to her guns and end the marriage. We’ll see how that plays out this season.

“It was very difficult. Thinking about divorce is one thing, but actually retaining a lawyer to move forward with your decision makes it more official.”

You’ve got to hand it to Cynthia’s mom. She knew this marriage was a mistake from the beginning. So, do you think Cynthia should have divorced Peter sooner or should she still hang in there and try to make it work?
