When a kid is being picked on, a note from his mommy is only going to make things worse. But that didn’t stop Slade Smiley’s mom (and Gretchen Rossi’s future mother-in-law) from sending a letter to Big Bully Andy Cohen telling him he “should be ashamed” of himself!

What got her feathers in a ruffle? The Real Housewives of Orange County: Season 8 Uncensored show that aired last week with the claim that Gretchen’s proposal to Slade was staged. Of course, just because the letter is signed by Elizabeth Larson-Smiley, doesn’t mean Gretchen didn’t dictate it. In fact, remember how Gretchen would write these incredibly long blog posts? This letter is reminiscent of that style – looong. But don’t worry, I’m going to break it down for you!

The letter obtained by Radar Online begins with:

“I am the mother-in-Law (to be) of Gretchen Rossi, and mother of Slade Smiley. I am sending you this email directly and have every intention of copying it to all of the media outlets that have posted negative articles about the kid’s engagement. I am an avid viewer of Bravo and not naive to the fact that the shows are edited for dramatic entertainment purposes; but this time Bravo have gone too far.”

We interrupt this rant to say, this time Bravo’s gone too far? Why this time and not the other hundreds of times? But I digress.

“After watching the Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8 Uncensored Special this past Monday night, you should be ashamed of yourself for the deceptive way you portrayed Gretchen & Slade and their beautiful engagement.”

Did you know that Slade and Gretchen’s contracts prevent them from directly commenting on this? Moving on, Larson-Smiley goes on to say that although the other housewives were not there, 35 of Gretchen and Slade’s closest friends were on hand to witness that oh-so special moment.

“I personally witness Gretchen & Slade’s deep love and commitment to one another each and every time I visit them in Orange County or at the home of Gretchen’s parents in Bass Lake. They have never wavered, NOT ONCE, in their desire to one day be married. You know full well Bravo was pushing them to get engaged and get married on RHOC for Season 7 and the kids refused to do it just for TV because they were not ready yet.”

It’s been three years since that episode aired and the kids “deep love” still hasn’t pushed them to the alter. But when in doubt, blame the producers.

“I am also personally aware and have seen the emails from your producers who did not want the other housewives attending the engagement party because it did not match with ‘the storyline.’ Why would your team lie and say otherwise?”

Umm, because it was totally staged. Like everything else on reality TV.

“I also read the beautiful e-mail Gretchen sent production thanking them for everything that day,” she continued. “She received an e-mail from them saying,’ Gretchen you’re so welcome. It was one of the best shoots we have done to date and with everything you and Slade have been through, you deserve it.’ Yet, … the very producers on the Uncensored episode tried to discredit Gretchen & Slade.”

The “beautiful e-mail” sent by Gretchen to production? Perhaps a hand written note on linen paper would be considered “beautiful” but an email? But wait, there’s more.

“How dumb do you think the viewers are? Gretchen & Slade get engaged, talk about all the dreams they have for the future, including having children together. Their lives together as an engaged couple was just beginning. But then you try and sway public opinion by using your producers to convince viewers that Gretchen & Slade don’t have a story.”

Children? Did Slade get a reverse vasectomy? Did I miss that episode because, wow, that would have been ah-maze-ing. Viewers have so enjoyed, va-jay-jay probing, caffeine enemas, multiple boob jobs, and the other endless medical procedures, please don’t give us more.

“I have seen the barrage of posts from fans asking Gretchen to return to The Real Housewives. The network has never told the real story. You and I both know the truth about why she didn’t return.”

Barrage? Real story? Meh. In closing, Bravo has agreed to re-edit Unscencored so that future airings do not include Slade and Gretchen’s proposal. So who ever wrote this letter got the job done. Thank you!
