How much does one woman have to endure? After being diagnosed with breast cancer twice, Amber Marchese, former star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, has announced she is now battling Lyme disease.

“I was officially diagnosed last week,” Amber revealed to ET. “About two weeks ago, I had flu-like symptoms which included a low grade fever, headache, aches, chills, joint pain and awful neck pain.”

Yikes! That’s scary because many people experience these same indicators. So what did Amber do next?

“I posted my condition on social media and a friend suggested I get tested for Lyme disease. She shared with me her struggles with Lyme disease and we shared many of the same symptoms.”

You’re probably thinking that Amber should also get in touch with resident housewife expert on Lyme disease, Yolanda Hadid, but Amber’s journey will be different.

“I am very fortunate as I caught it so early that no treatment is necessary. But we are going to monitor it.” The reality star is currently undergoing chemotherapy. “I feel really blessed that I caught it before it is too late,” Amber said. “I know so many people suffering from this disease and it sounds horrific.”

To Amber, dealing with illness is mind-over-matter.

“If I thought about the joint pain, then the pain increased. When I ignored it, got my butt to the gym, it went away,” she explained. “I believe in the power of the mind. You are sick if you want to be sick, you are well if you want to be well. That is just the way I choose to live my life.”
