Monday night’s episode of Teen Mom 2 ended on an unsettling note, with little Ali Simms complaining that her stepmother, Miranda, would not help her carry her backpack.

Ali’s claim was videotaped, as she spoke to Leah Messer’s cousin about her plight. Viewers who have followed Leah and ex-husband, Corey’s story know that Ali suffers from a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. Corey and Miranda spoke to MTV News, responding to the troubling video, and to Ali’s complaints.

“I always try to carry Ali’s backpack for her,” Miranda shared, while adding that learning about this was “heartbreaking.” “I would never try to do any harm to the children or create any kind of task that I know Ali cannot do.”

“I’m not saying how she felt was wrong — her feelings are important. I just hope that we can move on, and I hope that the girls feel comfortable no matter where they are at one time.”

Corey stood solidly behind his wife, insisting that Miranda always acts in the best interest of Ali and her sister. Corey was awarded primary caretaker,  and legal custodian earlier this season.

“Miranda has been around the girls since they were two years old,” the father of three stated. “Miranda is aware of what Ali is capable of and what she’s not capable of doing. If Miranda would have felt that the backpack was too heavy, she would not have made her carry the backpack.”

Ali also complained that Miranda’s attention is solely focused on the couple’s baby daughter, Remi. Miranda and Corey explain that they have been  unaware of Ali’s feelings, and shared their insight on the sibling dynamic.

“After Remi was born, I’ve never seen any type of jealousy that the girls had towards Remi or any kind of feeling that they felt left out,” Miranda explained. “Yes, it would be a big change for two six-year-olds to have a new baby in their lives when they’re used to just being the kids in the house.”

Miranda notes that she understands Leah’s concern, and wishes that she had addressed her directly.

“I think we’re at a better place now,” Miranda adds.

One question that remained unaddressed asks why Ali was videotaped complaining about her stepmother, and why the clip was filmed by MTV.

Corey and Leah have been entrenched in custody disagreements, and this video certainly seems to fuel the legal flames. Leah speaks more about the situation, in a sneak peek to an upcoming episode.
