RECAP: ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York’ Tara Slips Back Into Bed With Peter [Season 6, Episode 1]
It’s a new season of Love & Hip Hop New York, but the drama remains the same. We start off with the firecracker known as Remy Ma. She’s performing on stage in a club. She talks about life not always giving you second chances, but she’s living hers. She talks about the highs life can bring, but one mistake and it’s all gone. She served 6 years 4 months and 5 days in prison for assault. She got into a “little tiff” with a so-called friend. She’s now free to take back her life and career. She’s free to take her spot on top where Remy Ma belongs. She goes into her feelings about being back on stage. She says it’s crazy, and she’s grateful. She’s going to make the most of every second this time around. After she performs she hangs out with her friend Rah Ali backstage. Unfortunately their time is cut short by Remy’s hubby Papoose who wants to get her home by curfew. She’s still on parole. He’s not risking Remy getting in trouble again. He doesn’t want her to go back to prison. He doesn’t want to lose her.
Next we check in with Yandy and Mendeecees, they have 3 kids now, 2 boys and a baby girl. Yandy and Mendeecees got married recently, and she’s enjoying motherhood/being a wifey. Yandy wants a bigger house for her growing family, but Mendeecees doesn’t want to buy a house when he’s going to prison. (The Little guy has some dance moves!) Yandy is heartbroken. She’s tired of living with Mendeecees prison sentence over their heads. Medeecees doesn’t want to leave Yandy struggling as a single mom trying to figure things out alone. Yandy says Mendeecees sentencing coming up won’t stop her from being a mom, a wife, and a business woman. She’s going to cherish every moment.
Peter Gunz and his love triangles. So, Peter is waking up and we all expect it to be Amina in bed with him, but it’s not. It’s Tara!! She moved closer to Peter (and Amina) so he could be around the kids. She moved right down the hall actually. Easier for Peter to creep into Tara’s apartment. Peter helped her move, and they had some champagne. One thing led to another, and they slept together. She knows it was a mistake. She asks, “Why did I do this to myself?” Peter says “Daddies home.” Tara says no daddy is not home. He asks why they can’t get together more often. She’s not with anyone. His relationship with Amina has apparently disintegrated to a co-parent relationship. Isn’t that what he claimed happened with Tara when he married Amina? Tara doesn’t want Peter going back and forth between Amina and her. Peter says it’s been a long road for both the ladies in his life, but sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do to make things right.
Peter slips into the apartment he shares with Amina. She knows something’s up! Amina asks him where he’s been. Of course, he lies and says he was at the studio. Amina says they’re in a weird place right now. He’s never home, and when he is home they don’t communicate. Amina says Peter’s excuse use to be driving all the way to Tara’s to see the kids. Now she lives in the building. She agreed to Tara moving in the building so Peter would come home at night. Amina goes into a tirade about Peter never comes home, and when he’s home he sleeps on the couch. She tolerates Tara and Peter having a close friendship. She’s not comfortable with their close relationship. Amina thinks Peter still sleeps with Tara. She thought about divorce, but she still loves him. She’s trying to stick it out for their baby girl.
Yandy’s in the studio with an artist she’s managing. She says she’s been so focused on her personal life she’s put her career on the back burner. She says mama’s going back to work! Bianca aka Young B. She talks about her career. She hit the top of the charts at fifteen. She needs Yandy’s help. Yandy knows taking on Bianca will be a lot of work. Yandy needs to get some info.
Rah Ali wants to be a manager. For the past few months, she’s been managing a rap duo. We’re introduced to SexxyLexxy and MissMoeMoney from the rap duo BBOD. They’re the next big thing coming out of Harlem. Moe comes from money, but don’t let her family yacht fool you. Let’s just say the girls are frustrated with Rah’s management skills. She hasn’t come through for them yet. Lexxy says they’ve seen managers come and go. They need to know Rah is sticking around. Rah says she’s managing them so she can open doors for them. She also talks about DJ Shelf’s upcoming showcase. She’s getting them into that so they can show off their skills. Apparently Moe has some history with Bianca. Bianca was fighting with one of Moe’s friends, so Moe jumped in. Bianca swung at her with a club. (The one you put on the steering wheel) Moe had to get some stitches. Moe says everytime she sees Bianca, she has a problem. Rah starts giving them a lecture about professionalism.
Remy and hubby are playing chess at home. She was annoyed when she was rushed home after her performance the other night. It makes her feel like she’s still in prison. Remy says she made a plan with Pap. After she was released from prison they agreed to put all their energy into work. Now that she’s home she just wants to live a little and breathe. Remy expresses her frustration about Pap rushing her out of the club. Pap says it’s time to put their plan in motion. Sometimes he feels like she doesn’t want to go along with their plan. She says sometimes he makes her feel like a prisoner. She wants some freedom. Pap says incarceration traumatizes families. He’s trying to make Remy understand physically he was free, but mentally he was locked up too.
We finally meet DJ Shelf himself. He’s a DJ with the radio station Power 105.1. He says everything that’s hot in NYC runs through him. He’s the prince of New York. He also has a Sirius XM radio station, and he DJ’s in clubs. He wants to give artists in the city a chance to get it “Gwinin.” Gwinin Fest is for NYC’s hottest female MC’s. (Gwinin Fest is where the rap duo BODD and Bianca are going to be performing.) We’re introduced to the third performer Mariah Lyn. She’s in the studio with DJ Shelf. She introduces herself as “a bad bitch from Jersey.” She’s about to give everyone a run for their money. She worked her way up. She was in the foster care system. She does a little in-studio performance. Mariah worked her way up from the strip club. DJ Shelf and Mariah became friends.
Pap meets Remy to celebrate. It’s been one year since she’s been released from prison. He cherishes the moments he has with his wife. She’s been through a lot and he’s watched her suffer for a long time. The gift is a not so subtle hint he wants babies soon. Pap says Remy doesn’t want to only focus on work. This might be a good time to have babies. He has 3 kids. She has a son. They don’t have any children together. Remy promised Pap when they got married they would have children, but that was before she went to prison. They got married while she was in prison. She didn’t want to be pregnant in prison. She didn’t want to put herself or her newborn through that. She didn’t want her hubby to go through that either. Remy starts beating herself up. Pap says she doesn’t give herself credit. She did a good job with the kids while she was behind bars. She shoots down his baby proposal. She wants more time before she waddles around nine months pregnant.
Gwinin fest has arrived. BBOD vs. Young B vs. Mariah. DJ Shelf says his lineup is on fire! Yandy is there to support Young B. She wants to check out the way Young B performs. Rich Dollaz is her date for the evening. She says he likes to get his hands on the new female talent. Young B. still has beef with BBOD. She calls them “Bum Bitches on Deck.” Moe walking on stage makes Young B remember everything she hates about her. Young B says she’s the queen of Harlem. BBOD gets it started with Young B making faces like a five-year-old. Young B says she hasn’t seen Moe for five years. The stitches she gave Moe wasn’t enough to stay away.
The performance ends, but Moe is just getting started. They sit down at the table together, but there’s nothing friendly about this sit down. Rah is pissed. She needs to get Moe out of there before she makes a fool out of them. Yandy calls the bickering is amateur hour. She says if this is how Young B conducts herself in public, she needs to look long and hard about taking her on as a client. She wants no messes, and no drama. The two girls were separated. Moe tried to spit on Young B. Eventually after insulting clothing and living arrangements, Moe walks away.
Pap and Remy pull into a mansion. He wants to make his wife’s fantasy wedding a reality. Remy’s response is “Oh My God!” She says he made her wildest dreams come true. Remy says love conquers all. Pap gives her a tour of the mansion. Remy starts envisioning her dream wedding. Pap gets on one knee and proposes the right way. Of course she says yes. Pap says Remy is everything he’s ever wanted in a wife. He calls her his partner, friend, backbone and other half. He lost her once. He never wants to lose her again.
It’s time for Mendeecees to face the music. He leaves his lawyers office where he heard bad news. Mendeecees says he has to find a way to deliver the bad news to Yandy. Their worst fears may be coming true. He says there’s a chance he’ll go straight to jail after his sentencing. He says he’s going to be away for awhile. Yandy asks how long. He says he doesn’t know. Five to twenty years. She asks how she prepares for that. He says the only thing he can do is build her and the kids up so they can be strong. Hopefully his presence will be with them until he returns.
From the previews of the upcoming season there will be drama, drama, drama.

Alison is a 32 year old native of The Bay Area, California. She loves reality shows. Guess you can say she’s sort of an addict, the crazier, the better! She’s sarcastic, snarky, brutally honest (tell it like it is kinda girl), but she does have a soft side as well.
