From glam shots to mug shots, some people just shouldn’t be together. Take Michael Lohan and Kate Major for example. No really, please take them. These two have demonstrated many times that they do not belong together because of their constant fighting, domestic abuse, DWI’s, rehabs, and the latest, explosive argument filmed by Kate of the couple arguing in front of their two little boys who are 2 years and 10 months. One week later the kids were removed by Florida DCS and placed with Michael’s 74 year-old mother. Michael blames Kate’s drinking and Kate blames Michael’s temper.

Poor Lindsey.

One thing I notice is how soft-spoken Michael is trying to sound. You see, he’s the victim, y’all. This is all Kate’s fault. Certainly she was the dummy who filmed the fight, and partially to blame for their turbulent relationship, but she won’t be there to explain her side because at the last-minute, Kate has backed out of the Dr. Phil show. Typical, according to Michael. He would never miss out on a chance to be in front of the cameras.

Michael says this whole thing happened when Kate decided to drink while going through detox. He rambles on with excuses and justifications for his behavior because, as I’ve already indicated, it’s all Kate’s fault and St. Michael is dad of the year. Finally Dr. Phil interrupts Michael to ask why he’s involved with Kate. Michael says it’s because he’s sick and doesn’t let go of people because he’s co-dependent and can’t ever give up on humanity. Dr. Phil calls Michael out on his victimization. Can I get an amen!

The next six minutes are wasted trying to get Michael to understand that what he’s doing in the video they won’t show us is called domestic abuse. Something with, “Hit me, hit me again.” Michael then accuses Kate of staging the video and cheating on him while in rehab. He continues with the Kate-blame-game but it sounds like, blah, blah, blah, to me as I resist the urge to change the channel.

At last Michael admits he understands that his participation in the video is domestic violence, but he throws in  “as a Christian, but, more blah, blah, blah.” I’m suddenly glad I didn’t change the channel. I can’t for Dr. Phil to remove his jacket and open a can of whoop-ass on Michael. He hates when people say the word, but, after an apology or explanation. Unfortunately, this doesn’t happen, though Dr. Phil is visibly frustrated.

Very slowly, Dr. Phil explains to the learning-impaired, Lohan, the bottom line reason the children were taken away. He failed to protect his children when he repeatedly put them in a toxic and volatile situation. Dr. Phil puts a bullet point presentation on the screen to assist Michael in understanding what red flags are. “Lack of insight” is circled and underlined.

Michael makes the claim that he is the epitome of what a competent parent is. Mmm-hmm. He actually said that. I’m ready to throw my remote at the TV. Michael shares a poignant story of how he slammed his hand on the roof of the car when his son cried after learning he wasn’t going to be leaving with daddy, and then tells the caseworkers they had better fix this. Michael has no clue that by slamming his hand down he likely scared his child. He was reported for threatening a case worker. Sigh.

When we return from the commercial, Michael accuses Dr. Phil of building a case against him. Michael is not there to discuss his misdeeds, he is there to slam the mother of his two boys. Michael explains there’s a big difference between allegations and arrests. What are you talking about, Michael? You have arrests, too! Dr. Phil says he’s trying to help, and when Michael responds that he just wants to know what to do to get his kids back, you can hear a collective sigh from the audience, as if there saying, “That’s what he’s trying to tell you, you moron!”

More images are shown trying to throw Kate under the bus and her addiction all things alcoholic. A clip is also shown when Michael admitted to giving Dina Lohan a backhanded slap, as if it were nothing. Michael says he’s been clean and sober for almost one year. If true, congratulations. That’s one step forward. Dr Phil speaks briefly with Michael’s mom via polycom who let’s Dr. Phil know that this is the second time this year she’s had to come to Florida and take care of the kids. Bless, her heart, and I mean this in a nice way.

At the end, Dr. Phil asks Michael what his understanding is of why the children were removed. Careful, Michael, this is a test. Don’t screw it up. He says it’s because the kids were in an unstable environment because of Kate being “unsober.” Michael must have seen Dr. Phil flinch because he quickly throws in his inability to protect the children from their drunk mother. Another sigh.

Dr. Phil realizes it doesn’t matter how many verbs he puts in his sentences, nothing will penetrate Michael Lohan’s brain and ego. So Dr. Phil leaves him with a proverb from his own father: “Never miss a good chance to shut the hell up.” Dr. Phil advises Michael to write this on his hand, I think he should tattoo it on his ass. Michael promises to sever ties with Kate. Because obviously she’s the problem.
