Actor Charlie Sheen revealed he is HIV-positive in an interview on the Today show on Tuesday (Nov 17).“It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life,” Sheen told host Matt Lauer.

Sheen learned his diagnosis around four years ago when he began experiencing “insane” headaches and sweating, he said. Since then he has paid millions to quiet people who learned about the diagnosis, he said in the interview. “I release myself from this prison today,” he said.

Sheen came to fame in the 1980s acting in a number of successful films, including Platoon and Wall Street. More recently, he starred in the hit TV show Two and a Half Men but eventually lost his role in the wake of a highly publicized public breakdown.

Drug and alcohol use have marred Sheen’s personal and professional life in recent years. He was kicked off CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” in 2011 after an explosive meltdown that included calling the show’s producer “a contaminated little maggot.”

His escapades have also included the revelation that he spent more than $50,000 as a client of “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss’ prostitution ring.

Heidi Fleiss told the Daily Mail Online she’s praying and rooting for the HIV positive star. Fleiss, says she would “marry him” and wishes to end a 20-year estrangement to help him deal with the virus, even though it was Sheen’s testimony that helped jail her.

Another woman in the troubled actor’s life rallying around him is Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards. A source familiar with the situation tells, Access Hollywood that Sheen’s ex-wife, has known Sheen had the disease for a “number of years.” Supposedly the actor contracted the disease in the years after he and Richards divorced in 2006.

“Two and a Half Men” debuted in 2003 and starred Sheen as womanizing bachelor Charlie Harper. It made Sheen one of TV’s highest-paid actors and at its peak was TV’s most-watched sitcom.

Sheen has said he used drugs, and Warner Bros. Television said at the time of Sheen’s firing that the actor had engaged in dangerously self-destructive behavior.
