RECAP: The Amazing Race “Get In There and Think Like a Dog” [Episode 2]

Previously on the Amazing Race, 11 Teams started a race around the world. Some teams were successful on the first leg. Others not so much. Team Texas was the first team to check in at the first pit stop. They won The Express Pass. Team TMZ remained completely puzzled. They became the first team eliminated. 10 teams left. Who will be eliminated tonight?

The teams got some downtime in Brazil to get to know eachother. The Green Team says they were the first team on the flight to Brazil, so they missed the introductions. They want to meet some of the other teams. Maybe recruit some allies. Make some alliances.

Team Texas was the first team to depart. They departed to Buenos Aires, Argentina at 9:40 am. Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Pope Francis. When they arrive, they have to find the church Pope Francis was baptized in. Team Texas says they feel great being in first place, but they can’t rest because “If you aren’t first, you’re last.” They are pumped to have The Express Pass. The second team departs at 9:44 am. The Track Stars are confident. They showed the other teams they’re strong. Team Chackattack departs at 9:48 am. Team Bama mom and son depart at 9:56. They go over again how James Earl and his mom were close before he came out. Their relationship became strained. This is the most time they’ve spent consecutively together in 10 years. “So far so good.” Team Texas reaches the travel agency first. The earliest flight they have is at 8:25 pm. The other teams flow in and they receive the same information. So, everyone goes to the airport.

The Cousins are the first team to actually look up the information they will need when they land in Argentina. They’re eager to move up in the race, and show they’re a winning team. The Dancers arrive at the airport and check in. They explain how hard their upbringing was. They get their strength from their mom. Being on the show is their way of giving back to their family. They aren’t letting anything or anyone get in the way. The Green Team and Team Alabama look up and write down the church information. Justin doesn’t want them to share the information with anyone else. Team Alabama and Team Texas have a little pow wow. Team Alabama shares the information with them, and The Paparazzi. Justin comes over as James Earl is handing out the information like it’s candy, and he’s kind of pissed off. Justin says “So much for our agreement.” Team Texas says Justin just rubs them the wrong way. They don’t like the way Justin is playing, and they don’t trust The Green Team. They know how good The Green Team is. The Texans want to take out The Green Team.

The teams arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and make their way to the church Pope Francis was baptized in. All the teams race through the airport to taxis. When they arrive they have to take a number. The church will open at 7:30 am, and they will be admitted in the order they arrive. The next morning the church opens up, and there is a choir singing for them. The church is just breathtaking. The teams can’t help being touched when they enter. The Green Team says it’s like angels singing. When they receive their clue from the priest they find out it’s a Detour. They have 2 options. “Cartoneros” collecting cardboard around the city. They have to pick up 100kgs of it and exchange it for their next clue. “Fletero” Teams must transport a valuable statue across the city in a truck. 1 member of the team directs the driver. The other member must sit in the back to prevent the statue from being broken. When they arrive at their destination, they must display the statue properly in exchange for their next clue.

The paparazzi has a little disagreement on which detour they should take. First they want to do “Fletero.” When they read all about the 2 options they argue about “Cartoneros” being the easier task. They continue arguing in the back of the taxi on the ride over to their Detour. Everyone except The Reporters decide on “Cartoneros.” There are only 8 carts available for the “Cartoneros” Detour, and it’s first come first serve. Team Texas and The Green Team arrive first. They look at the map briefly. Then they’re off to find cardboard. The Paparazzi and Chacattack arrive, and off they go. Team Texas and The Green Team both run to the collection site to weigh in their cardboard. Apparently the first teams to arrive have collected a big portion of the cardboard because the last few teams have to hunt for the cardboard. Oh and people underestimate The Cheerleaders. They’re athletes. They have drive, and determination. Team Texas weighs in, and they are only 1/3 of the way to their 100kg goal. The Green Team is having problems getting to the collection site because they have too much cardboard. The Green Team arrives and weighs in. They’re only 60kgs. It looks like the Bama Team and Paparazzi are working together.

Meanwhile The Dancers find cardboard, and poop. The Cheerleaders aren’t having any luck finding cardboard. The cousins arrive start searching. The Track Stars arrive, but all the carts are gone. They run around like chickens with their heads cut off until one of the other teams finish. Obviously The Track Stars think they can outrun the other teams if they can find a cart. The Green Team finishes first. They receive their next clue. Team Texas is close behind. The Paparazzi finish in 3rd place. The other teams gradually finish, and move on. The Track Stars finish in last place.

The Reporters chose “Fletero.” They arrive at the store, and see their statue. They read their clue. First they have to call for a truck. The truck arrives and they load their statue. They now have to find the directions to their destination. They describe how detail oriented reporters have to be or the broadcast will fall apart. They start randomly asking people. They meet a guy who lets them use his computer. They have to consult Google. They figure out the directions, and start heading over there. Kelsey is giving the directions because she can speak Spanish. Joey’s hanging out in the back with the statue. He says Kelsey has all the power, and he would like to help more. He jokes the statue’s head looks “Kind of looks like Kelsey.” Kelsey asks the driver his name. His name Juan.  They finally arrive at the park. They have to find the clue. Kelsey points out The Gazebo. They haul the statue over there, complete it, and they receive their next clue. 

The Green Team reaches their Road Block. “Tilted Tango.” Phil explains how big The Tango is in Argentina. The teams have to learn steps to The Tango. They have to perform some steps on the ground. Then they have to wear a harness and finish their tango on a wall. They have to perform the steps perfectly to get their next clue. Diana chooses to do the task. Justin just has to hope she can do it. Team Texas arrives and they have no clue how to do the tango. Apparently in Texas all they do is the two-step. Diana is the first one to try, and she can’t do the routine correctly. She’s sent off to practice. Team Texas struggles with this task. Logan (Paparazzi) tries next. She almost finishes, but messes up one of the last steps. Of course Diana (Green Team) gets it right on her second try. The Green Team once again finishes first, and moves on to The Pit Stop. 

The Green Team gets in same taxi The Cheerleaders are arriving in. Justin tells them it’s a dancing challenge. They squeal in delight. Logan gets the moves right her second time. They leave in second place. The other teams flow in, and start learning The Tilted Tango. Team Texas gets the moves right the fourth time, and land in third place. Chackattack finishes in fourth place. Team Alabama finishes in fifth place. Unfortunately for the teams who are on their way to the pit stop, they can’t find any taxis who know where the pit stop is. Apparently Argentina doesn’t have GPS? The Cousins struggle on the moves, and being scared of heights. The Cheerleaders, and The Track Stars have no problems with the task. The Cheerleaders boast about being dancers, but they’ve never done this. The Dancers meet the task with great enthusiasm. The last 2 teams are The Cousins and The Track Stars.

The Pit Stop is a Polo Stadium. Argentina boasts about having the best polo team. The last team to check in will be eliminated. The Green Team finds Phil first. They also won a trip to Morocco. The Paparazzi gets out at the wrong entrance. They get lost while Team Texas finds Phil and lands in second place. They outran Team Alabama. Literally. One of them also pulled a hamstring while running. Team Alabama lands in third place. Paparazzi lands in fourth place. Chackattack arrives in fifth place. Phil tells the Argentinian host they’re newlyweds. He jokes they will have a short time of happiness. The Cheerleaders bounce their way to sixth place. They’re excited about dancing! One of them does a little Tango with The Argentinian guy. The Reporters land seventh. The Track Stars find Phil and eighth place. The Dancers are in ninth place. The Cousins arrive last, and they are eliminated. They have no regrets, and they are proud of everything they did.
