Annabelle Neilson Wants The Americans To “Stop Being Caroline Stanbury’s Pawn”

Annabelle Nielson, The Voice of Reason on Ladies of London, is my favorite lady. I’m totally biased toward her common sense approach and lack of give a shit when it comes to resident queen bee, the manipulative Caroline Stanbury. Annabelle calls ’em like she sees ’em, kids.

“Also Caroline does have bubbles, Sophie and Caroline Fleming as well as an up and down fire ball in Juliet – sort of as these little pawns and she can use them when in need, to back her up…”

True. Juliet is Caroline’s lapdog this season. She’s even picked #TeamCaroline over Marissa, Maven of Wieners. I think this relationship between Juliet and Caroline has flourished, not because Juliet’s a true social climber, but because if she steps out of line she’s afraid Caroline will shank her with a crudité.

“…the truth is I don’t really know why they all seem so intimidated but I think it may be that Caroline put’s [sic] the girls down in a sort of passive aggressive way but with a laugh and a smile…so they feel this subtle kind of hurt and then they get scared!!”

Juliet denied being frightened of Caroline and the social power she wields, but I wave the bullshit flag on that. When Caroline gets tetchy, Juliet quakes in her waders. Annabelle met with both Juliet and Lady Julie to get to the bottom of it.

“…Caroline had said that she would ruin Juliet’s name and social life in London, which quite honestly made me laugh but…I also wanted Juliet not to feel scared. But then she denied it happened. For me as really more of a bystander to both the girls’ issues, it seemed obvious that Juliet was not telling the truth…”

And what about that retracted apology? At the New Year’s Eve party, Lady Julie was tipsy, both literally and figuratively. I think that’s why she had such a strong reaction to Caroline’s little jab. And it was a little jab. But when a friend is sobbing—drunkenly or not—shouldn’t you apologize and stick to it? Annabelle thinks so.

“I think it’s stupid, ungracious, unnecessary and wrong. She knows damn well it meant a lot to Jules and the way it looks is that Caroline doesn’t want to look weak or that she’s lost some silly row with Jules.”

But these girls can’t expect Annabelle to be sympathetic to their plight for much longer.

“…I think they all need to start standing up for themselves if they want this situation for them individually to change. Find your inner pitbull and stop being a pawn…”

She’s absolutely right. I think Caroline would respect these women a lot more if they stood up to her. Will she still be snarky, as she was about Marissa’s Times photo? Of course. Caroline Stanbury will mock anyone and everyone. That’s her way. But Juliet and Lady Julie don’t have to be such timid little dormice and take it.

So, do you agree with Annabelle’s assessment of Caroline? Do you think Juliet will ever stop stand up for herself where Caroline’s concerned?
