Hypocrite! Read Caitlyn Jenner’s Stance on Gay Marriage and Ellen DeGeneres Responds
Say it isn’t so. Caitlyn Jenner isn’t entirely supportive of gay marriage? According to Ellen DeGeneres, who spoke with Howard Stern on his Sirius radio talk show, she was “confused” by Jenner’s stance and feels Jenner has some acceptance of her own to discover.
“She still has a judgment about gay marriage,” Ellen expressed to Stern.
To kick off the season premiere of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Caitlyn Jenner was interview by Ellen in a pre-taped segment that aired on Tuesday. Jenner explained to Ellen, “I’m a traditionalist, I’m older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it’s always been a man and a woman. I’m thinking, ‘I don’t quite get it.”
I’m sure some could say they don’t quite get an Olympian wanting to transition into a 65-year-old woman, but hey, who are they to judge. Is Jenner trying to find acceptance of others?
He said, “I think, like a lot of people on this issue, I have really changed my thinking here to, ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.’ That’s not my job, okay? If that word – ‘marriage’ – is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.”
Ellen, who married actress Portia DeRossi in 2008 after the California Supreme Court ruled a previous ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional, told Stern that Jenner’s stance on gay marriage was “confusing.”
“I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is like, really confusing to people. And you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage,” DeGeneres said. “She goes, ‘Well if the word marriage is that important.’ It is. That’s the word. We want the same thing.”
In the end, Ellen said she had “a great interview” with the I Am Cait star but she did have one regret – Jenner didn’t dance with her. Ellen said, “I don’t think she’s a dancer. Maybe she didn’t want to dance with me because I’m a lesbian.”
