Kim Richards, embattled ex-star of the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” is speaking out about her relapse and recent stay at a treatment center for substance abuse, leaving some to question her genuineness about the entire matter.

“I love sobriety,” Kim told Entertainment Tonight. “I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home.”

As you recall, Kim was arrested last April at the Beverly Hills Hotel after a reported drunken incident. After that, Kim went on the Dr. Phil show to further claim she had no dependency problems, and when he offered treatment, which her children fully supported, Kim turned down Dr. Phil’s offer. It was several days later that Kim finally checked herself into to a Malibu treatment facility, however, that stay was interrupted so Kim could attend her daughter Brooke’s wedding in Cabo. After the sober coach quit, a meltdown at the wedding, and several days missing, Kim returned to treatment. She explained that family-related matters contributed to her relapse.

“Monty, my ex-husband, is very sick and my son wasn’t well,” Kim said. “And I had to give away my dog, and I wasn’t talking to my sister [Kyle Richards].”

Kim is facing three pending misdemeanor charges: public intoxication, resisting arrest, and battery of an officer. Kim credits the arrest as her “a-ha” moment.

“Actually, my arrest was my ‘a-ha I get to go away now and rest and take a break from all this’,” Kim shared. “I don’t want anybody to take this wrong, but I truly needed a break from hospitals, family, the pressure. I needed to go away.”

And perhaps filming a reality television show should be added to that list of things Kim needed a break from. The good news is, Kim feels she has more insight into herself now. She made the decision not to attend her niece, Nicky Hilton’s, London wedding ceremony and stay in treatment.

“I went in and I got to learn a whole lot about myself,” Kim added. “I dug deep into my past, things that happened to me as a child, good and bad, teenage years, relationships with all my loved ones, where they need to be mended, where they’re very powerful. I worked on me.”

We wish Kim good look in her continued growth, healing, and sobriety.
