Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Amber Marchese, had the surgery on Monday to remove a new lump in her breast and surrounding tissue and is now recovering from it before taking the next steps. Jim tells E! News,

“The surgery was close to four hours. They removed the tumor and more than 20 millimeters surrounding it. She was in a good deal of pain last night, but she’s been resting and she’s coming home today. After this, she’ll have five weeks of radiation and then another surgery.”

Amber discovered she was battling cancer again earlier this spring. With her first bout with stage 1 breast cancer, Amber underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, and says that after all of the preventative measures it is unusual for the return of the disease.

Jim reveals that the overwhelming fan support has been a comfort to Amber,

“She’s really appreciative of everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” he says. “She’ll be back on her feet in a few days. She’s going to keep going and keep fighting.”

This is the second time Amber has received treatment for the disease after undergoing a double mastectomy following a diagnosis six years ago. After revealing that the lump she unexpectedly found was confirmed as cancerous in April, she shared how rare it is for the disease to return after all those precautionary measures.

Amber also spoke to E! News previously about the diagnosis.

“I’m going to handle this with grace, positivity and faith,” she shared. “I don’t know why this is happening to me, but it is. So I have to turn it into an opportunity to raise awareness. Some good has to come from this.”
