Teen Mom OG Recap: Catelynn and Tyler Clash With Carly’s Adoptive Parents & Farrah is Back! [Episode 5]
We kick off “Teen Mom OG” with Amber receiving a phone call from Gary, checking up on his ex, surely hoping for a distraught, sobbing, and lonely wreck at the other end. Amber tells us that Gary is calling a lot lately, and is acting super weirdly gross. She meets up with her family, and shares about the death-like feeling that Gary’s impending arrival is bringing, and her brother sagely responds “Thank God.” Amber is depressed, but her brother reminds her to enjoy the freedom from ever believing that they would be reclining together again. I think a light bulb actually went off with Amber…YAY! Heather, the wide eyed producer friend, is there for another incoming phone call from the contact labeled “Gary the Hairy Fairy,” and as Amber ignores it, we learn that Gary is is blurting out disgusting and provocative sweet nothings during these uninvited convos. Heather pulls off an expressionless face throughout the scene. Amber believes that they needs closure from the relationship, and from any future revolting phone calls.
Gary’s mom shows up with Leah, and chats kindly with Amber about her well being, and Gary’s new predicament. Amber reiterates her need for closure. Gary keeps the smut calls coming, while Heather the producer, blinks in sympathy. Amber is on a hayride with Leah, and we learn that the dirty talk still hadn’t stopped. Amber calls Gary to set up a meeting, Kristina hears the call, and Gary looks nervous. Gary tells Kristina that he is leading Amber on, and callously labels it honesty. Kristina refuses to see the gutter standards that she is accepting, and it is pitiful. Gary arrives for the showdown, and Amber tells him to cut the manipulative crap. Gary agrees, and blathers opinions that he never backs up, all spoken from his favorite reclined position. Amber doesn’t want to react like a fool on camera, so she kicks him out before she hauls off and lets him have it.
As we check in with Maci, we see that Taylor is home babysitting Bentley, while Maci shares her wisdom with college students about avoiding pregnancy…while pregnant. She poses for pictures to giggling fans, and later at home, she and Taylor talk about how to break the knocked up news to America. Maci believes that Ryan’s parents will be upset, and the likely issues that having two kids from different dads could present, are hashed out. It’s Halloween, and Taylor and Maci discuss the plans for the evening, and possibly telling Ryan about the baby. Taylor thinks that he will be overjoyed that he unloaded Maci for good, but Maci thinks that his mood may dampen the glee. We watch the threesome trick or treat, and Maci swipe the tot’s candy.
Ryan shows up with his dad, Larry and Maci breaks the news. Larry is warm and kind, and Ryan wishes Taylor luck, because he will sure need it. Back at the house, Ryan breaks the news to his mom, Jen, and she takes it well, but Ryan acts uncomfortable.Ryan and girlfriend Shelby are on the rocks, and his parents try to discuss what a grown man’s priorities should be. Ryan responds by throwing a mini hissy fit, and spitting a wad of tobacco spit into a can, always the charmer. Maci meets up with pal Ashley, and expresses anxiety about Ryan’s parents’ opinion, never mentioning once her own parents, who apparently remain opinionless. Maci arrives to pick up Bentley, and Jen expresses warm excitement over the new baby. Maci explains that she can’t get married because she can’t drink to get through it, and Taylor has passed on putting a ring on it. Jen and Larry are super kind, and wish they could ditch their good for nothing son, and adopt her.
Catelyn Lowell shares that she is working to keep her pregnancy weight under control, and that she and Tyler will soon be headed to North Carolina to visit Carly, along with their adoption counselor, Dawn. They meet with Dawn, where they tell her that they deserve to be more involved in Carly’s life. Dawn seeks to gently teach them that acting like over sized, ornery children might not be the best thing for their daughter. Tyler enthusiastically agrees, but you can just feel an upcoming wave of stupidity on the NC horizon. We catch up with them in the airport, and jump forward to their hotel room. They are excited to see Carly, and Tyler believes that what he plans to say will be fine. The day has come to meet with Carly’s parents, and both Catelynn and Tyler are having anxiety.
The two couples greet each other warmly, and the discussion kicks off. Teresa kindly explains that an open adoption was decided upon, due to their empathizing with Catelynn and their fondness for both of them. Brandon and Teresa express their wishes to keep their children off social media, and Tyler directly challenges them for allowing Carly to be seen in other public forums. Tyler wants a darn good explanation as to why his social media followers must suffer, or he plans to go against their wishes. Teresa and Brandon are both peeved, but hide it well. Thankfully, the discussion takes a better turn, where the loss and insecurity both couples have experienced is discussed. Tyler and Catelynn should be eternally grateful for such patient adoptive parents. Catelynn and Tyler are relieved, and greet Carly, whose face isn’t shown. Carly is huge, and the scene is heartwarming. Teresa passes down some of Carly’s things to the couple’s unborn baby, photos are taken, and it is touching and sweet. The visit comes to an end, and they all hug and say goodbye, as Teresa warmly tells Catelynn that she will love her new baby. The visit is productive, and makes them excited to meet their new daughter.
The last couple of minutes focus on an end of the episode whammy, as the production team arrives on Farrah Abraham’s doorstep. Yep…she’s baaaaack! They discuss the designed intro scene, and Farrah childishly objects to being directed while she has pizza in the oven. We see Farrah’s mom Debra, who has evidently spent the years off in Farrah’s plastic surgeon’s office. Debra lives in Seattle now, and Michael lives in Austin, as the family warmly convenes to endure Farrah’s first meltdown of the season.
Heather explains the bratty dilemma to a producer, who dramatically confronts Farrah. Farrah is angry that she was left out at the beginning of the series, and that she had to seek counseling to deal with such a diss. Farrah leaves the room rocking her famous wispy crying, while Debra analyzes the behavior for the team. Sophia runs and comforts her mom…and there’s the hotly disputed intro, successfully in the can. Farrah actually gets some expression out of Heather, making it all worth it.
Next week, Amber intros her new love, Catelynn’s cervix is dialating, and Maci tries to run out the back door when she hears that the porn star is back. Don’t miss it!
