Tisk, tisk…”Real Housewives of Atlanta” star, NeNe Leakes, has made indie t-shirt design brand, Tees in the Trap, very mad!

“Tees in the Trap,” is a local Atlanta designer and their brand highlights popular culture with trendy and edgy designs. NeNe took a liking to their trendy designs and purchased a black crewneck shirt at a pop up shop in Atlanta and snapped a picture in the shirt that captioned, “Girl, Bye.” She even posted a photo of herself wearing their shirt on Instagram. Interestedly enough, instead of tagging “Tees in the Trap,” for people to purchase the shirt, the RHOA star presumably stole the idea and launched her own “Girl, Bye” shirt line, essentially ripping off Tees in the Trap’s design. Below is a photo of NeNe wearing the “Tees in the Trap” shirt.

A rep from Tees in the Trap says,

“While we can’t stop her from selling a Girl Bye tee, we did legally stop her from selling a design that looked exactly like ours. She has now changed the font completely and is selling her own version of the shirt, which was completely fine with us until she had her lawyers send us a cease and desist letter saying that we had no right to have her shirt taken down and since she’s more popular and made the saying “Girl Bye” famous that she has the exclusive right to use it on shirts and we don’t, so we need to take ours down. NO ACTUAL legal defense other than, she’s more famous.”

NeNe’s “Girl Bye” shirt is pictured below. Coincidence? I highly doubt it.

NeNe not only presumably stole their shirt design, reportedly she’s taken steps to trademark the phrase, ‘Girl,Bye.” Some may argue, the term ‘Girl, Bye,’ is NeNe’s moniker, made popular by her use of it on the RHOA. However, NeNe did not make the move to create the shirt line first therefore Tees in the Trap wins this round! Stay tuned for more to come.
