Sad News: ‘RHOBH’ Star Yolanda Foster Handicapped By Lyme Disease, She Can No Longer Read & Write

Posted on Jan 20 2015 - 4:26pm by BeachSpin

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, Yolanda Foster has been thrown back into the struggle of her life, and is once again opening up to share the details with the Bravo viewers.  She shares in her Bravo blog this week that her battle with Lyme disease has kicked back into high gear with her newest challenges being triggered by a relapse that began in December.

“Most of you know I have been battling Lyme disease for the past three years. I wasted the first year trying to get diagnosed and spent the next two trying to find a cure. I have gone from the conventional long-term antibiotics to about every holistic protocol there is to offer. Unfortunately, I was only able to get to about a 60% recovery until I relapsed in early December and have not been able to find my way back.”

Yolanda goes on to share that this relapse has been crushing, and has taken away her ability to read, write, and even to watch television, because of severely diminished brain function.

“I have lost the ability to read, write, or even watch TV, because I can’t process information or any stimulation for that matter. It feels like someone came in and confiscated my brain and tied my hands behind my back to just watch and see life go by without me participating in it.”

She posted a photo on her Instagram account from a hospital in Singapore, writing “I guess God gives his hardest battles to the strongest soldiers #MyHealthJourney#SearchForACure #NeuroLogicalLymeDisease Thank you to My love @officialdfoster and thank you to the most extraordinary staff at#MountElizabethNovenaHospital #Singapore for your kindness and excellent medical care

Yolanda Foster

Yolanda is clearly a fighter, and the attitude she is working to maintain is truly admirable.  While she expresses that she is “of no use to anyone, or anything at this moment”, she is committed to doing everything she can to further the fight for all Lyme sufferers.

“I keep reminding myself that I was given this task for a greater purpose, which keeps me driven and motivated to think outside the box to make a difference not only for myself but for all my fellow Lymies suffering some form of this debilitating disease that we know so little about.”

Yolanda continues by expressing hope for her future, and an undying determination to press on for a cure.

“I am a firm believer that God often uses our deepest pain as the launching pad of our greatest calling, so even though I have not found a cure, I have faith that I will.”

We wish her strength and healing as she presses on in her courageous fight against this terrible disease.

Poor Yolanda…that photo is sad. She annoys the junk out of me, but I am pulling for her recovery. Blessings to her family.

Best of luck to Yolanda. Lyme is a very tough disease & it seems to come in waves or bouts. Hope she can find some relief & is soon back on her way to good health.

  • Very sad news. I pray she stays strong and recovers.

Hey Honey! Sent you 2 messages. Get back to me when you can.

  • TheBeverlyHillsHaveEyes

I know I sound so callous but I find it so hard to sympathize with Yolanda. She seems so able and fit. She travels so regularly, seems to lead a fairly busy life. She seems to only have a problem writing when it comes to her blog, she’s constantly tweeting about her daughters careers. I know Lymes is serious and debilitating but I just don’t know if it is in her case when I hear her giving that toast and saying she lost her voice for the past two years and yet she filmed two seasons of RHOBH during that time and seemed very vocal and able. Gosh I am such a cynic. And why would anyone take a picture of someone lying in a hospital bed?

  • MorningYawn

Wishing you health Yolanda! Would love to see you regain your strength and keep on pushing for a cure!

  • She Stinks!

I’d like to confirm that she could read and write before this illness?

  • realityteacup

Can hardly believe she goes to Singapore to find a cure! Seems weird

    • twifan2

I’d like to know just what kind of ‘treatments’ she’s getting there. :/

    • DoneWithBravo

She and David went there for Michael Buble’s tour (David is his producer)!

Man if she isn’t milking this “disease” in an attempt to keep herself in the limelight. Amazing what these narcissistic reality starts do in a vain attempt to stay relevant. Hows about this Yolanda: Since you can’t read, write, understand simple English, stay tf off blogs, stop constantly posting pics of you to garner sympathy, and get yourself well, if at all possible. To think you post the most personal things, as if your followers are your dear friends. Sad & Pathetic. You were certainly well enough over the last 2 years to film RHOBH, constantly write your blog & processing enough information, comprehending enough in your brain to make informed (or ill-informed) comments, and stick your nose into everyone else’s drama on the show. Me thinks you are severely insecure about FosterMan leaving you, that you need attention from any & everyone, even complete strangers, to make yourself feel better. That is more sad than your **cough, cough** debilitating disease. Oh, dahling, lighten up on the tanning, it’s making you look SO old…..and you are getting a little bit in the older-lady dept to keep your hair platinum. The platinum hair & tanned/leathery looking skin looks hideous. Just sayin……..

    • 4theHighHeels_4theRawDeals

Boy do I agree with your opinion!

  • TartLemon

IMO, the ‘holistic’ cures Yolanda is ingesting are probably doing as much or more harm than the Lyme. Not too long ago, she posted photos and comments of the daily treatments and they didn’t seem too healthy to me.

    • Jennymckitty

I remember seeing the plethora of meds she was taking (the majority vitamins & holistic meds) & it was amazing. At some point, how do you know what is helping? With so little medical trials on these drugs, how can you be assured that some of your symptoms aren’t side effects or interactions? You can develop a lot of neurological problems simply by taking too much B Vitamins.

    • TheBeverlyHillsHaveEyes

ITA. And I don’t think that Lemon Cleanse is doing her any good either. Living on lemon water with paprika for two weeks is just to healthy.

      • DoneWithBravo

You’re only supposed to do that Master Cleanse up to 2x/year!!!!!!!!!!! She’s setting a really bad example for the public!

      • Bad Barbie

Cayenne. Thank Beyonce fro making that nonsense a trend. I know people who did it for 40 days and ended up looking like Bettle Juice.

  • DLister

If she can’t read, write or think — “loss of brain function,” then who can explain all these quotes? Where dafuq did they come from? I call total BS.

  • 4theHighHeels_4theRawDeals

I don’t believe she is really sick or if she does have Lyme disease, then she is using it/milking it for convenience and attention. I was truly personally attacked on ROL for my comments about Yolanda but this is my opinion and I am entitled to have it.

I have several reasons to believe she is either lying completely or very much embellishing it. She seems to use it whenever it is convenient–my goodness, her timing in episodes is impeccable! Never do they happen when RHoBH is filming so she can do her usual name-dropping and famewhoring (all the while her husband seems bored to distraction by her very presence). No, it conveniently flares up when she is supposed to blog and explain her outrageous behavior. Then she has an episode!

She says she cannot read, write, or watch television but she sure is willing to tweet and instagram her suffering. She lied bold-faced and said she couldn’t speak for 2 years. Not true–she’s been able to film (and look fantastic) every single season of BH.

I know 2 people with Lyme disease and neither of them believe she really has it and they know far more about the disease than I do but it’s just so suspect that whenever her behavior is really bad, she has a sudden flare-up (same thing happened LAST season) and she can’t write, read, or blog. Why doesn’t this disease flare up and prevent her from filming? Hmnnnnn?

I think it’s her twisted way to hang on to the ready-to-flee David Foster. She’s hoping he won’t leave her if she’s ill…..

As someone told me on ROL, I think she has LIES disease and not Lyme disease. She is milking this to get sympathy and it seems to be working but I just don’t buy it.

    • TheBeverlyHillsHaveEyes

ITA 4theHighHeels. I can’t help think she’s milking it too for that very reason that she has filmed three seasons now of the show and never has she had to stop because she can’t function. Even at the reunions which are months after filming she is pretty vocal and involved, even when no one wants her to be.

  • 4theHighHeels_4theRawDeals

So she cannot read or write!!

Yolanda: “Vhat in dis VERLDE vill I do?” I vill TVEET instead of writing–oh VAIT! Dat’s da same ting! But I must let everyvon know of dis terrible suffering I has.”

  • doggiedaddy

    I call Bull Shit.

  • Guest

Would some of you be happier if she died to prove to you she is sick….jeez. Hope none of you ever get sick. You do realize that people die from this disease….right?

    • TartLemon

That’s completely unfair for you to assume that of me. You do not know me, what I’ve endured or what health struggles I have. I don’t put them out there to be judged. Yolanda does, however. She makes this public for the precise reason to be judged by me and I do not happen to have the same opinion of her actions as you do.

My opinion is just a valid as yours.

    • Newchild

Hun, don’t think she’s really sick…….It’s called a story line. It’s amazing what she can accomplish when she wants to – you know, traveling all over this country on one vacation after another, making a reality show,, giving dinner parties, flying her daughters to NY to find a $$$$ apt., and that’s just for starters. She’s looking for fame – it feeds her ego and that is really sad….and now she can’t read or wright….OK

      • misstc

Filming of the reality show happened before she had the relapse which happened this past December, a month ago.

        • DoneWithBravo

This past December? The one that showed her on Twitter dancing her ass away? Yeah, right!

    • TheBeverlyHillsHaveEyes

No one is doubting how serious Lymes is for some sufferers but I’m sure in those cases it doesn’t just manifest itself when work is finished or in between events, holidays and trips away.

      • DoneWithBravo

Except for the fact that during the same trip, just 1 day later, she’s seen in a video clip of Michael Buble’s, singing, dancing and playing a tambourine. Check his twitterfeed! That’s when I realized she’s not telling us the truth. Ooh, that + David has said a few times that she wanted to use the HW show to get her own show.

        • Babson_Chick

her own show?? now that would be exciting (for someone maybe)

    • DLister

Well, Guest, that’s a little harsh isn’t it? Most people do not believe she actually has Lyme’s Disease, myself included — I had it. However, I do feel she does have something bad going on, an odd collection of symptoms. I honestly do not feel she’s lying about feeling terribly off. She may have been erroneously misdiagnosed and told that it’s Lyme’s disease; Yolanda, not being a doctor, would likely believe it and stop seeking other answers while seeking these other treatments that are not successful.

      • Bad Barbie

Maybe she does have Lyme and her body has developed something else? I don’t think someone at their level of wealth and fame will lie about this for attention. They sure don’t need the money or bad rep.

        • DLister

I totally agree, BB. I would feel/believe she may have some sort of as-yet-unidentified syndrome. Thank God she is in good shape (not obese, eats well, etc.) so she can better withstand what’s assaulting her.

    • Bad Barbie

Her body could just have other issues that are complicating her situation. Just like there are people who the chemo (not even the cancer) killed them and some survive from the same type of cancer.

It doesn’t seem like she is faking having Lyme. Maybe her case is not the “typical” case in journals?! Highly doubt her husband will lie or hyped her condition to have a story line. They sure don’t need the money.

  • TartLemon

Yolanda goes from treatment to treatment. Singapore, Korea, Philippines, home remedies that’s just ‘treatments’ she’s posted about. All these ‘treatments’ just might be what’s making her so sick if indeed she is. According to her own timeline, there has been no time for Yolanda’s body to catch up to each ‘treatment’. IMO, she considers it a failure if she does not heal within minutes and walk out completely healed. On to the next ‘treatment’.

IMO, Yolanda’s body is rebelling against the ‘treatments’ more than anything else.

  • Atlanta Girl

Quite melodramatic. If you are *that* compromised with your health, having time to compose such sappy diatribes garners no sympathy from me – she is on a reality tv show where EVERYTHING is overdramatized, one gets accustomed to amplifying everything. It is insulting to anyone dealing with chronic illnesses.

If she is genuinely that sick, she should be focused on her health, not her “brand”.

  • Wendy Owen

the cdc reports this highest number of deaths in the USA from lyme disease to be 8 in 2007. california does not even make it into the top 15 of states reporting, since the tick that carries this illness was found to be around the lyme, ct, region.

yolanda needs to stop with the crackpot treatments and go to real medical facility and stay there until remission. sounds like an thoroughly treatable situation has been allowed to progress into a harder-to-treat situation.

    • Wendy Owen

oh. the trauma might also be caused by having two daughters you’re pimping out and the realization that you are no longer pimpable.

  • Brattus Rattus

I’ll be the first to say that I know NOTHING about her disease. But with that said, with my terminal cancer I barely have the energy to go to work most days let alone dance around fire pits, host huge parties, deal with people like Brandi, workout, travel the world, order people around to model my spoiled children’s apartments, go on long vacations, long walks and all the other crap she does let alone be on a reality TV show whining about no being at the opening of an envelope.
Hell, yesterday I was at the OB because they think the cancer has spread to the uterus and they had to open me to get a sample. I screamed ladies and gents. An actual scream from pain. Then I was too screwed up to do anything but shiver on my couch all day from the shock….and I have a full rib tattoo that didn’t hurt at all. So I don’t find her story believable. Plus I want to know who all gathered “her” thoughts and wrote all this stuff for her. She just doesn’t want to blog anymore.

    • DoneWithBravo

I agree, 100%. Sorry about you cancer diagnosis. You sound like a TRULY strong lady! Best wishes to you. (I’m about to face my 31st surgery soon, but I should be okay–just a LONG road ahead…, so I know what it feels like to have real chronic “screaming” pain. 🙁

    • equinox2009

May God grant you peace, without pain. I hope you have a better tomorrow! Blessings to you.

    • Bad Barbie

      Hugs to you Brattus!

    • Babson_Chick

      Sorry to hear this!!

  • cait

If you remember, last August-through-October, I had a long battle with the Pearly Gates on High, and I’m still here to tell the tale ! I had a follow-up Consult today where the Doc said I should never have made it out of the Hosp. never mind walk again (albeit with a stick, for now,) So if this is an over-emphasis, or a lie for publicity or sympathy, then it’s SICK ! !
    Brattus, thinking of you !

  • DoneWithBravo

Was this new diagnosis BEFORE or AFTER her dancing/singing/tambourine-playing video with Michael Buble a few days ago? This story stinks, and so does Yo. NOT.BUYING.IT.

  • 4theHighHeels_4theRawDeals

I would love everyone to read this article in the Daily Beast about Yolanda Foster and her “illness.”
