Apollo Nida is only two months into serving his 8-year prison sentence for fraud and identity theft and he’s already doing interviews. From behind bars, the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” star is talking his marriage and life on lock down. He tells In Touch in an exclusive interview on newsstands this Friday.

“I’m not the best husband…I know I let a lot of people down. But I can say that Phaedra is the best wife and mom and that my children are in good hands with her. I’m hopeful that we can stick things out.” Phaedra, however, may have a different idea: her rep tells the magazine that “the divorce is proceeding as planned.”

Apollo is currently serving his prison sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky and he’s focused on using the time constructively to change his life:

“There are all walks of life here,” he says. “I keep to myself. When I get out, it’s pedal to the metal. I want to be a motivational speaker and stay on the right side of the law.”

He also hopes to rebuild his relationship with his two sons, Ayden and Dylan.

“There’s a plan to get them up here [to visit me],” he says. “At this point, I don’t care about anything else except getting my life back on track. I know for a fact that when I get home, I will pick up the pieces.”

Nida began his eight year prison sentence for fraud in September, and a month later, his wife, Phaedra Parks, announced she was filing for divorce. Parks has been dealing with the backlash of her  husband’s arrest by distancing herself from his criminal persona. Parks chose isolation in a hotel room with her sons, reasoning that the separation from her husband would minimize any negative effects on the family.
