Kenya Moore, star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is giving back as she promised on the RHOA Reunion. According to the Detroit News, Ms. Moore has donated $20,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation.

The Detroit native graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1989 and is now hoping that the money will be used to close the education equity gap in her struggling hometown. Kenya told local Detroit news:

“Detroit is in trouble and needs our help right now. The public funding for our children in DPS is not being met, We have to provide the proper foundation for our children to succeed.”

Kenya will be on hand to present the check during an event in her honor being held Friday at her alma mater.

The foundation was started in 2009 and has awards nearly $5 million in grants, according to Dr. Glenda Price, president of the foundation. The funds go directly to teachers and education nonprofits.

No word yet on whether Nene Leakes has lived up to her end of the promise and donated $20,000.

I heard she backed out and didn’t give them a dime

She’s already cancelled twice on DPS now right? Also DPS is in such a shambles that I’ll bet not a dime would end up helping students in any substantial way sadly.

Not true. I am from Detroit and I live here in Michigan. I have family that still live in the city. I wish folks would stop spreading lies…
The school system has improved a great deal since 2009…the year I moved back to Michigan…every little bit helps.
But Detroiters never give up…and we always come back. …if you went to Downtown Detroit it is an entirely different looking place ith a lot of businesses, casinos, etc. We are improving slow and stead and the big three are thriving once again. Economy is so much better and we have many more schools opened again, including a ton of private and charter schools.
Her money will help greatly and she isn’t the only one donating….we take care of our own..

The media protrays Detroit as if it is a third world country and it is a dayum shame.
