Kenya Moore, star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is giving back as she promised on the RHOA Reunion. According to the Detroit News, Ms. Moore has donated $20,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation.
The Detroit native graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1989 and is now hoping that the money will be used to close the education equity gap in her struggling hometown. Kenya told local Detroit news:
“Detroit is in trouble and needs our help right now. The public funding for our children in DPS is not being met, We have to provide the proper foundation for our children to succeed.”
Kenya will be on hand to present the check during an event in her honor being held Friday at her alma mater.
The foundation was started in 2009 and has awards nearly $5 million in grants, according to Dr. Glenda Price, president of the foundation. The funds go directly to teachers and education nonprofits.
No word yet on whether Nene Leakes has lived up to her end of the promise and donated $20,000.
