- As of 7/2/2014 – Apollo’s attorney’s have requested that the Atlanta District Court change his status from Criminal History Category V to Criminal History Category IV
- His attorneys argued for a lesser criminal category in 3 documents last week citing his history of three probation revocations, driving under the influence, and giving a false name to law enforcement, all before he turned 24 years old saying. Releasing the following statement:
“A criminal history category of V substantially overstates the seriousness of Mr. Nida’s criminal past, thus warranting a departure from the Guidelines range. Mr. Nida’s lengthy but early small-time criminal history is simply not in the same league as the “violent offenders, drug kingpins and perpetrators of far more serious offenses” that Criminal History Category V was designed to address.”
How It Began…
Apollo Nida and his wife, Phaedra Parks joined the cast of the Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2009. The couple used the platform to catapult them to fame. They portrayed themselves as….Phaedra, the high power attorney and Apollo….the reformed ex-con turned business man.The questionable part is the fortune that was amassed by the couple during the marriage. Reality television has a way of turning unknowns to sought after celebrities over night, celebrities with flailing careers suddenly become relevant again, and more importantly, it has a way of digging skeletons out of some very deep, dark closets. Phaedra Parks (attorney, funeral home director, and author) and Apollo Nida have many raising an eyebrow at their questionable behavior.
It All Came Crashing Down…
Back in January 2014, the feds charged Apollo in a massive bank and identity fraud scheme. Apollo, who is currently on state parole for a 2004 racketeering conviction, didn’t seem phased by the charges. The scam involved, opening 50 bank accounts in and around the Atlanta area, using stolen identities and depositing stolen US Treasury checks, fraudulent checks, stolen retirement checks issued to Delta Airlines employees. According to the US Attorneys’ office, Feds pounced on Nida last year after he and a group of co-conspirators cashed the stolen checks then laundered the money through bank accounts in the names of people whose IDs he also stole. Feds also claim Nida bilked even more cash by filing fake tax returns and obtaining bank loans against cars he didn’t own. Phaedra has not been indicted in any charges, however, two of Apollo’s shell companies list Phaedra as an “Officer” of the company. Gayle St. Julien, Apollo’s accomplice in the scheme was arrested in September of 2013, agreeing to record Apollo while he incriminated himself. Back in November 2013, Mrs. St. Julien pled guilty and accepted a plea deal for her involvement in the Identity Fraud Scam masterminded by Apollo Nida. The feds charged Gayla St. Julien with opening 40 bank accounts in and around the Atlanta area, using stolen identities and depositing stolen US Treasury checks, fraudulent checks, stolen retirement checks issued to Delta Airlines employees. In addition to, checks in the names of real people who were owed unclaimed property from various state and federal government agencies.
Trouble At Home…
Since Apollo was criminally charged by the feds, reports have circulated the reality couple’s marriage has been on the rocks. Allegedly, Apollo and Phaedra are legally separated after five years of marriage. The couple married in 2009 after Apollo was released from prison on a racketeering conviction.
Apollo is no stranger to crime and prison. The former RHOA star served five years in federal prison from 2004 – 2009 for Racketeering. Upon his release, he married RHOA star, Phaedra Parks and seemed to have turned his life around but as we know now that was not the case. On Friday 24, 2014, the U.S. District Attorney of Georgia charged Apollo Nida with bank fraud and aggravated identity fraud. The news was made public by the U.S. District Attorney’s complaint filed in Atlanta on Thursday, Jan 23. Apollo surrendered to US Marshals on Friday 24, 2014 and appeared in front of an US magistrate judge at the US District Court in downtown Atlanta. Apollo is currently on state parole in Georgia stemming from a 2004 racketeering conviction which he served a 5 year prison sentence from 2004 to 2009. His wife, Phaedra Parks, represented him in that case.
